Gas Station Operator Convicted of Failure to Keep Records
In a recent case, Attorney Christopher McCall successfully reduced his client's sentence. A Peoria gas station operator was arrested for failing to keep proper tax records, computer fraud, wire fraud, mail fraud, and filing a fraudulent sales tax return, which totaled 28 felony counts.
Attorney McCall negotiated the case and 28 felony charges were dismissed. Attorney McCall's client ultimately pled guilty to the sole charge of failing to keep tax records, a misdemeanor crime. By doing so, the client's excessive fraud charges were dismissed, a prison sentence and deportation were avoided as well as $300,000 in additional fines and costs.
Mr. McCall's client was sentenced to six months in jail and received a fine of $250,000. Because of Attorney McCall's legal counsel, the defendant avoided spending seven years in prison and then deportation, due to the computer fraud charges.
The defendant also has a prior conviction on his record for illegally avoiding immigration officials, but charges for possessing false documents were dropped due to his plea in this case that occurred several months ago.
